A tractor unit is the backbone of road transport — pulling curtain-siders, tippers, reefers or lowboys for hauling machinery. Power, fuel economy and driveline condition matter most.

On European DAF, Scania and Volvo, watch the emissions class and the state of the turbo and gearbox; an American long-nose Freightliner costs less up front, but check parts availability first.
