A skid-steer loader turns by varying wheel speed, so it spins on the spot and squeezes into tight yards where bigger machines cannot manoeuvre. With a bucket, forks, sweeper or auger it stands in for several machines at once.
This machine is only as good as its quick-coupler and auxiliary hydraulics — they carry the attachments, so check those first. The skid-steer’s home turf is the USA, which is where most Bobcat, Case and Caterpillar units come from; cheaper JCB units sometimes come from China. Tell us what attachments you plan to run.
